Tactical Christianity

If the name turns you off, allow me to propose that almost every Christian book you’ve ever read has been some version of tactical advice as a Christian.

  • Our goal is to further God’s Kingdom. This means to continue to grow the areas in which things happen as God would want them to (the purest expression of His Will), and to deepen His influence in the areas that are already within the borders. To follow the analogy of a Kingdom, we are pushing the borders of the Kingdom, and working such that the orders and desires of the King happen as much as possible within the borders.
  • Our How is twofold: knowing God’s desire for things to preemptively do the things that we think He would want. And actively listening for His commands in order to obey when He gives an order. The important distinction here is that a perfect Kingdom is not one where the King needs to direct every last detail. Rather, it is where every inhabitant of the Kingdom understands what the King wants well enough to be doing that without active direction. Of course, when the King gives a directive, it should be followed immediately and directly. But we should be doing things actively even when we don’t hear a directive.
