As a human, it is scary to do things alone

this is a great survival instinct -

over time, most of the people that have survived have survived in the same way.

it is too mentally difficult to try and compute every decision, so we outsource a lot of decisions by watching and imitating others, and by following the “wisdom of the crowd.”

the crowd isn’t always right, but it is definitely right most of the time. There will be times when you are right and the crowd is wrong, but those won’t happen often.

The security that a group can give someone is very valuable -

it is a driving emotion in religious groups, Facebook, and middle school politics.
